Brief Introduction:

CSIR UGC National Eligibility Test (NET), also known as CSIR - UGC NET or NTA-CSIR-UGC-NET, is a national-level exam conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) to select candidates for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and for determining their eligibility for the post of Assistant Professor/ Lecturer in Indian universities and colleges subject to fulfilling the eligibility criteria laid down by UGC. JOINT CSIR - UGC NET is considered as one of the toughest exams in India. Candidates clearing CSIR NET exam can become lecturers in the subject areas falling under the faculty of Science & Technology only. JOINT CSIR - UGC NET is conducted for the following five subjects only:
  1. Chemical Sciences (subject code - 701)
  2. Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences (Subject code - 702)
  3. Life Sciences (Subject Code - 703)
  4. Mathematical Sciences (Subject code - 704)
  5. Physical Sciences (Subject Code - 705)
The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has entrusted the responsibility of conducting CSIR-UGC NET in CBT mode to NTA. Online applications for JRF/NET are invited twice a year on all India basis through Press Notification. As per the press release by the concerned authority, the exam would be conducted twice a year June month and December month, and it will be conducted in an online mode.

A large number of JRFs are awarded each year by CSIR to candidates holding BS4 years program/ BE/B.Tech./B. Pharma/MBBS/ Integrated BS-MS/M.Sc. or Equivalent degree/B.Sc. (Hons) or equivalent degree holders or students enrolled in integrated MS-Ph.D. program with at least 55% marks for General/General-EWS & OBC (50% for SC/ST candidates and Persons with Disability) after qualifying the Test conducted by CSIR.

Exam Pattern for CSIR NET June 2020:

The pattern for the Single Paper MCQ test shall be as given below:-
  1. The MCQ test paper for each subject shall carry a maximum of 200 marks.
  2. Total questions that candidates need to attempt in the exam shall be different as per the subject chosen by the candidate.
  3. The exam shall be for a duration of three hours.
  4. The question paper shall be divided into the following three parts:
  • Part 'A': shall be common to all subjects. This part shall be a test containing a maximum of 20 questions of General Aptitude. The candidates shall be required to answer any 15 questions of two marks each. The total marks allocated to this section shall be 30 only.
  • Part 'B': shall contain subject-related conventional MCQs. The maximum number of questions to be attempted shall be in the range of 20-35. The total marks allocated to this section shall be 70 only. 
  • Part 'C': shall contain higher value questions that may test the candidate's knowledge of scientific concepts and/or application of the scientific concepts. The questions shall be of analytical nature where a candidate is expected to apply the scientific knowledge to arrive at the solution to the given scientific problem. The total marks allocated to this section shall be 100 only.

1. Exam Pattern: Chemical Sciences

CSIR NET question paper for Chemical Sciences contains 120 MCQs. Candidates need to complete the exam in three hours duration.

Marking scheme: Each question in Part A and B carries two marks weightage. However, each question in Part C carries four marks weightage. There is negative marking of 0.5 marks in Parts-A and -B and one mark in Part-C.

2. Exam Pattern: Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences

CSIR NET question paper for Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences contains 150 MCQs. Candidates need to complete the exam in three hours duration.

Marking scheme: Each question in Part A and B carries two marks weightage. However, each question in Part C carries four marks weightage. There is negative marking of 0.5 marks for every wrong answer in Part A and B. In Part C, there is negative marking of 1.32 marks for each incorrect answer.

3. Exam Pattern: Life Sciences

CSIR NET question paper for Life Sciences contains 145 MCQs out of which candidates need to attempt 75 questions. Candidates need to complete the exam in three hours duration.

Marking scheme: Each question in Part A and B carries two marks weightage. However, each question in Part C carries four marks weightage. There is negative marking of 0.5 marks for every wrong answer in Part-A and -B. There is negative marking of one mark in Part-C of the exam.

4. Exam Pattern: Mathematical Sciences

CSIR NET question paper for Mathematical Sciences contains 120 MCQs out of which candidates need to attempt 60 questions. Candidates need to complete the exam in three hours duration. It may be noted that in Part-A and -b, there is only one correct option. However, in Part-C there might be one or more correct options in each question. Marks will be allotted to candidates on identification of all the correct options.

Marking scheme: Each question in Part A carries two marks weightage. On the other hand, each question in Part B and C carries weightage of three and 4.75 marks, respectively. There is negative marking of 0.5 and 0.75 marks in Part A and B. However, there is no negative marking for questions in Part C of the exam.

5. Exam Pattern: Physical Sciences

CSIR NET question paper for Physical Sciences contains 75 MCQs out of which candidates need to attempt 55questions. Candidates need to complete the exam in three hours duration.

Marking scheme: Each question in Part A carries two marks weightage. On the other hand, each question in Part B and C carries weightage of 3.5 and five marks, respectively. There is negative marking of 0.5, 0.875 and 1.25 marks for Part-A, -B and -C, respectively.

Nature of Questions in JOINT CSIR - UGC NET Exam:

All the questions in JOINT CSIR - UGC NET June 2020 exam will be of Multiple Choice type (MCQs). The question will have 4 options, candidates must select the most appropriate answer.

Total Number of Questions in JOINT CSIR - UGC NET 2020:

In all the subject areas of the CSIR NET JUNE 2020, the actual number of questions asked and to be attempted in each section may vary from subject to subject.

Mode of Exam:

JOINT CSIR - UGC NET will be conducted in online mode/ Computer Based Test (CBT) only. Each candidate will be allocated a desktop with a pre-installed software specially created for the examination. Make sure to check that the system and the mouse is working properly before the exam commences.

The medium of Question Paper:

The Question Paper will be available in both English & Hindi language.

JOINT CSIR - UGC NET 2020 Eligibility Criteria

NTA has released the eligibility criteria for the JOINT CSIR - UGC NET June 2020 examination. Candidates must fulfil all the eligibility conditions to be eligible for JOINT CSIR - UGC NET exam. The eligibility criteria for JOINT CSIR - UGC NET 2020 is given below:
Educational Qualification or Qualifying Examination:
  • Candidates should obtain M.Sc. or equivalent degree/ Integrated BS-MS/BS-4 years/BE/B. Tech/B. Pharma/MBBS with at least 55% marks for General (UR)/General-EWS and OBC candidates and 50% marks for SC/ST, Persons with Disability (PwD) candidates.
  • Candidates enrolled for M.Sc or having completed 10+2+3 years of the above qualifying examination as on the closing date of online submission of Application Form, are also eligible to apply under the Result Awaited (RA) category on the condition that they complete the qualifying degree with requisite percentage of marks within the validity period of two years to avail the fellowship.
  • B.Sc (Hons) or equivalent degree holders or students enrolled in Integrated MS-PhD program with at least 55% marks for General (UR)/General-EWS and OBC candidates; 50% marks for SC/ST, Persons with Disability (PwD) candidates are also eligible to apply. Candidates with Bachelor’s degree will be eligible for CSIR fellowship only after getting registered/enrolled for Ph.D/Integrated Ph.D program within the validity period of two years. Candidates possessing only Bachelor’s degree are eligible to apply only for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and not for Lectureship (LS)/ Associate Professor.
Age Criteria:
  • JRF: Maximum 28 years as on 01.01.2020 [upper age limit may be relaxable up to 5 years in case of SC/ST/Persons with Disability(PwD)/ female applicants and 03 years in case of OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) applicants].
  • Lectureship (LS)/ Assistant Professor: No upper age limit.
Qualifying Marks:
  • General/ Unreserved /General-EWS candidates - 55% marks
  • OBC / SC / ST / PwD / Transgender candidates - 50% mark.
Total attempts:
  • No limit on attempts in JOINT CSIR - UGC NET examination.

CSIR UGC NET June 2020 Online Application

The National Testing Agency (NTA) Invites online Application from the eligible candidates to appear in next JOINT CSIR - UGC NET June 2020 examination for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and eligibility for Assistant Professor/Lecturer to be held from 21 June 2020. The Test will be conducted in the Computer Based Test (CBT) mode only. Detailed information bulletin for JOINT CSIR - UGC NET June 2020 is also available on the websites: www.nta.ac.in.

JOINT CSIR - UGC NET Exam Admit Card

Admit Card of JOINT CSIR - UGC NET June 2020 exam will be released by NTA on May 15, 2020. Registered candidates can download their Admit cards for JOINT CSIR - UGC NET from the NTA JOINT CSIR - UGC NET official website. JOINT CSIR - UGC NET 2020 Result

JOINT CSIR - UGC NET June 2020 examination Result will be announced by 2nd week of July July 2020. NTA will declare the result / Score of JOINT CSIR - UGC NET June 2020 exam on its official website i.e. https://csirnet.nta.nic.in.

Answer Key:
Final answer key of the JOINT CSIR - UGC NET June 2020 exam will be released when the examination is over i.e 21 June 2020. Candidate can check their answer key/online response through their login credentials once it is available on NTA official website.

However, December 2019 examination Answer key for CSIR-UGC NET is available on the official website which can be seen through this official Link.

Cutoff Marks:
JOINT CSIR - UGC NET June 2020 cutoff will be released by National Testing Agency (NTA) along with the declaration of the JOINT CSIR - UGC NET result and scorecard by 2nd week of July 2020. JOINT CSIR - UGC NET cutoff is basically the minimum marks that candidates need to secure in order to qualify the exam.

JOINT CSIR - UGC NET cutoff 2020 will be released separately for ‘Assistant Professor/Lecturer’ and ‘Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)’. The cutoff list will be released category and subject-wise.
