Brief Introduction:

The National Eligibility Test (NET), also known as UGC NET or NTA-UGC-NET, is the test for determining the eligibility for the post of Assistant Professor and/or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) award in Indian universities and colleges. UGC NET is considered as one of the toughest exams in India, with a success ratio of merely 6%. NET qualification is mandatory for universities & government colleges. According to the recent report of National Testing Agency(NTA), total 10,34,872 candidates have applied for December 2019 examination, covering 81 subjects, across 700 centres in 219 cities.

Until July 2018, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted the UGC NET exam but from December 2018 onwards, NTA is conducting the UGC National Eligibility Test. As per the press release by the concerned authority, the exam would be conducted twice a year June month and December month, and it will be conducted in an online mode instead of offline mode.

Exam Pattern:

UGC NET Examination June 2020 will be comprising two Papers - Paper 1 (General Paper on Teaching & Research Aptitude) and Paper 2 (Your Subject). Paper 1 will have a total of 50 multiple choice questions of 100 marks and the subject Paper 2 will have 100 multiple choice questions of 200 marks. These Paper will be held consecutively without any break. The total duration of the examination is 3 hours or 180 minutes. Candidates are free to take any amount of time to any paper. Both Papers will be conducted in the Computer Based Test (CBT) online mode only.

Nature of Questions in UGC NET Exam:

All the questions in UGC NET June 2020 exam will be of Multiple Choice type (MCQs). The question will have 4 options, candidates must select the most appropriate answer.

Total Number of Questions in UGC NET 2020:

UGC NET 2020 will have a total of 150 multiple-choice questions. Paper 1 will have 50 questions and Paper 2 will have 100 questions. All the questions are compulsory to attempt.

Mode of Exam:

UGC NET will be conducted in online mode/ Computer Based Test (CBT) only. Each candidate will be allocated a desktop with a pre-installed software specially created for the examination. Make sure to check that the system and the mouse is working properly before the exam commences.

The medium of Question Paper:

The Question Paper will be available in both English & Hindi language.

Marking Scheme and Negative Marking:

2 marks will be awarded for each correct response for both paper 1 & 2. There is no negative marking in the UGC NET examination.

UGC NET 2020 Eligibility Criteria

NTA has released the eligibility criteria for the UGC NET June 2020 examination. Candidates must fulfil all the eligibility conditions to be eligible for UGC NET exam. The eligibility criteria for UGC NET 2020 is as follows:
Educational Qualification or Qualifying Examination:
  • General/Unreserved/General-EWS candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree or equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognized by UGC in the concerned subject. The Other Backward Classes (OBC) belonging to Non-Creamy Layer/Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Persons with Disability (PwD)/Transgender category candidates who have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent examination are eligible for this Test.
  • Candidates who are pursuing their Master’s degree or equivalent course or appeared for their qualifying Master’s degree (final year) examination and whose result is still awaited or candidates whose qualifying examinations have been delayed may also apply. However, such candidates will be admitted provisionally and shall be considered eligible for award of JRF/eligibility for Assistant Professor only after they have passed their Master’s Degree or equivalent examination with the desired percentage of marks. Such candidates must complete their Master degree or equivalent examination within two years from the date of NET result with required percentage of marks, failing which they shall be treated as disqualified.
  • Ph.D degree holders who completed their master’s degree before September 19, 1991, will be given a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks.
Age Criteria:
  • Applicants must not be more than 30 years of age as on June 01, 2020, to apply for Junior Research Fellowship. There is no upper age limit in applying for UGC-NET for Assistant Professor.
  • SC, ST, OBC, PWD, Transgender and Women candidates are given an age relaxation of up to 5 years.
  • Three years relaxation in age will be permissible to the candidates with L.L.M. degree.
  • A relaxation of up to 5 years is provided to the candidates who have served in the armed forces subject to the length of service.
Qualifying Marks:
  • General/ Unreserved /General-EWS candidates - 55% marks
  • OBC / SC / ST / PwD / Transgender candidates - 50% mark.
Total attempts:
  • No limit on attempts in UGC NET examination.

UGC NET June 2020 Online Application

The National Testing Agency (NTA) Invites online Application from the eligible candidates to appear in next UGC-NET June 2020 examination for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and eligibility for Assistant Professor to be held from 15 June to 20 June 2020. UGC NET Exam Admit Card

Admit Card of UGC NET June 2020 exam will be released by NTA on May 25, 2020. Registered candidates can download their Admit cards for UGC NET from the NTA UGC NET official website. To download UGC NET hall ticket, candidates have to login on the website using their credentials.

UGC NET 2020 Result

UGC NET June 2020 examination Result will be announced by 05 July 2020. NTA will declare the result of UGC NET June 2020 exam on its official website i.e.
Answer Key:
Final answer key of the UGC NET June 2020 exam will be released when the examination is over i.e 20 June 2020. Candidate can check their answer key/online response through their login credentials once it is available on NTA official website.

However, December 2019 examination Answer key is available on NTA NET website which can be seen through this official Link.
Cutoff Marks:
UGC NET June 2020 cutoff will be released by National Testing Agency (NTA) along with the declaration of the UGC NET result on July 5, 2020. UGC NET cutoff is basically the minimum marks that candidates need to secure in order to qualify the exam.

UGC NET cutoff 2020 will be released separately for ‘Assistant Professor Only’ and ‘Assistant Professor & Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)’. The cutoff list will be released category-wise. Candidates can check the UGC NET 2020 cutoff on the official website of the exam. We will also provide the Direct link (will be available soon) for UGC NET June 2020 exam cutoff.
